Clean Our Scene Update - April

Educating Young People
about Littering

Tips for teachers, parents and others

who want to help our youth make our Coast shine

Keep America Beautiful, Keep Mississippi Beautiful and MDOT all have anti-litter programs for teachers to use in the classroom or families to try out at home. Here are some of the highlights.

Certain to entertain and inspire, the Adventures of KAB Man web site from Keep America Beautiful  has movies, games and signup opportunities for youth to work with KAB as cleanup and beautification superheroes.

MDOT’sMyrtle the Turtle” program targets school-age children, grades
K-3. Included in the approximate
30-minute presentation is an eight-minute animated video that depicts Myrtle’s world. Myrtle the Turtle considers all of Mississippi her home and encourages everyone to take responsibility to keep their home, Mississippi, clean and beautiful for
all to enjoy.

Keep Mississippi Beautiful's anti-litter educational program instills in students the important relationship that must exist between personal attitudes and solid waste handling practices as students mature as individuals and as community members.

WHAT IS CLEAN OUR SCENE?
The Gulf Coast Regional Tourism Partnership and Keep Mississippi Beautiful are encouraging a three-county community effort to clean up our Mississippi Gulf Coast. They thank current supporters and challenge everyone else to roll up their sleeves and take on at least one cleanup project between now and May 31.

With everything our Coast has to offer, let's shake out our welcome mat and show off our coastal Mississippi

beauty, pride and hospitality.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

First, go to CleanOurScene.org and pledge to do your part. Then volunteer through the web site with an existing cleanup effort--including the Great American Cleanup, Renew Our Rivers or Mississippi Coastal Cleanup--or register your own cleanup project and clean a scene of your own.

Hurray for Hancock Middle School. The Earth Club and Performing Arts Club cleaned their scene this month.
